SharePoint Foundation SKU removed!

As you may have recently read regarding the recent release of SharePoint 2016, the SharePoint Foundation SKU is no longer available with this new release!

This basically means that all current companies/organizations that use the SharePoint Foundation platform will not be able to upgrade to the same SKU in SharePoint 2016!  Therefore, the last version they can use of SharePoint Foundation will be SharePoint Foundation 2013.  This, of course, prevents them from using all of the new feature support available in SharePoint 2016 such as the larger database scalability improvements as well as a whole host of other features.

If you would like Microsoft to bring back the SharePoint Foundation SKU, then you can vote for this UserVoice item here: https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329220-sharepoint-dev-platform/suggestions/14128419-bring-back-the-sharepoint-foundation-sku

SharePoint 2016 RTM has been released!

If you haven't yet heard the news, SharePoint 2016 RTM has been released!

You can now download a trial version of SharePoint 2016 RTM from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51493

If you want to read up more on SharePoint 2016, you should definitely check out these links:

One of the welcome changes to SharePoint 2016 is the removal of stsadm.exe and complete migration to  PowerShell commands, however, on a sadder note, SharePoint Foundation 2013 is the last free edition of SharePoint and now all SharePoint editions will require paid licensing....

And while it might still be quite some time before all of the features are available for use considering that SQL Server 2016 has yet to be released as well as Windows Server 2016, but at least you can begin experimenting with this new release and seeing how much the platform has changed since SharePoint 2013!!

SharePoint 2016 Release Candidate released!

SharePoint Server 2016 Release Candidate has been released!  Unfortunately, unlike earlier releases, it is not a complete installation release but rather a patch on top of SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2.

Therefore, you will first need to download and successfully install SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 and then apply the Release Candidate Patch on top of the Beta 2 installation.

You can read more about the SharePoint 2016 Release Candidate in the links below:
